The Patna High Court (commonly known as Patna High Court) is High Court of the state of Bihar. It was establish on February 3, 1916, by the British colonial government and was affiliated under the Government of India Act of 1915, making it one of the oldest high courts in India.
History Of High Court Patna
The Governor General of India issued a proclamation on 22 March 1912 establishing the court. In addition to that, The foundation stone of the High Court building was laid by the Viceroy and Governor General of India, Sir Charles Hardinge of Penshurst, on 1 December 1913. After the completion of the Patna High Court building, it was formally inaugurated by the same Viceroy on February 3, 1916. Official work began on March 1, 1916. Sir Edward Maynard des Champs Chamier was first Chief Justice.
In 1948, the Patna High Court train jurisdiction over the areas of Bihar and the province of Orissa until 26 July 1948, when a separate High Court for Orissa was constituted. The Patna High Court opened a circuit court in Ranchi in 1972. In 1976, the Circuit Bench of Patna High Court in Ranchi was convert into a permanent bench. In November 2000, under the Bihar Reorganization Act, 2000, circuit bench of the Patna High Court in Ranchi was convert into the Jharkhand High Court.
Beginning April 18, 2015, the Patna High Court planned a year-long centenary celebration to mark 100 years of its establishment, and the occasion was inaugurated by President of India Pranab Mukherjee and presided over by Bihar Governor Kesari Nath Tripathi. Chief Justice of India H.L. Dattu & Patna High Court Chief Justice L. Narasimha Reddy did so.
